The Grey Barn – A Modern Rustic Experience

The Rustic Glamping Barn, located in the heart of Medusa, New York (just 2.5 hours from New York City and 25 minutes to the Catskills) offers a unique experience for a middle ground between camping and a cabin – with plenty of land to wander throughout your stay.

A deluxe queen air mattress provides a comfortable sleeping experience – off the ground, but still close to nature.

About the Grey Barn

Nestled in the heart of Medusa, the Grey Barn is a portal to a simpler times – and the perfect spot to disconnect and enjoy the best of Upstate New York. Located just 2.5 hours from New York City, 25 minutes from the Catskills and 45 minutes from Albany, its far enough away without being too far.

Scenic roads and small farms lead you away from the city and into the serene landscape of Medusa, where you will find the Grey Barn situated on a 100-acre parcel adjacent to New York’s Ten Mile Creek.

Whether you’re visiting in the summer months or winter cold – the landscape won’t let you down – and neither will the cabin. Upstate New York’s cool summers mean there’s no need for air conditioning – but a small heater is there when you need it on those cooler mornings.

The Grey Barn really takes the term ‘rustic chic’ to a new level – from exposed wooden beams to charming decor that mixes new with old. And when you’re ready to venture outside – there’s plenty of space outside to spread out, relax and build a fire as you watch the sun set and stars come out over the sprawling green fields.

Your host, Kathryn (who is available if needed, but stays elsewhere) also provides a number of items, such as camping kits, barbecue materials, cooking supplies and more if needed. She knows the area well – and is a major force in the rejuvenation of one of New York’s historic towns – so don’t hesitate to ask some questions if you have them!

About the Location

Situated upon more than 100 acres shared with just a few other dwellings (under the same ownership), a stay at the Grey Barn gives you access to open fields lined with hay bales, pine and hardwood forests, multiple creek access points and swimming holes, and much more. In 2020, finding a place outdoors that is both quiet and clean has been a challenge – but not when you’re here. Most times, there will be just a few other people sharing the property – but you likely won’t even bump into them. With beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and vivid night skies, you’ll have an incredible experience no matter the time of day.
